Border patrol agents in Laredo, Texas have shut down three separate smuggling attempts over the last several days.
U.S Customs and Border Protection has released information about each incident.
The first attempt was discovered on June 19, 2020 at the I-35 checkpoint.
Agents inspected a white tractor trailer using service canines. They were alerted of human presence and found 22 Mexican Nationals inside the trailer. All of the individuals were taken into custody and the driver and passenger were arrested.
The trailer was found to be reported stolen and turned over to authorities at the Webb County Sheriff’s Office.
The second incident occurred on June 20, 2020 when another tractor trailer was stopped and inspected by canines.
Authorities were alerted of human presence, revealing 61 illegal immigrants from Guatemala and Mexico inside.
All of the individuals and driver were taken into custody and the case is pending further investigation by Homeland Security.
The third incident happened June 22, 2020 at the Highway 59 checkpoint. Agents found 11 illegal immigrants from Mexico hidden inside a secret compartment in the roof of a box truck.
All of the individuals, driver and passenger were taken into custody.
