Man arrested in beating death of female trucker gets new charge and bond revoked

Published:

A man charged in the murder of a female trucker in Alabama faces more legal trouble for destruction of government property.

Thirty-nine year old Charles Levester Gipson has now been charged with destruction of government property after he intentionally clogged the toilet in his jail cell, causing it to flood, AL.com reports.

Gipson’s bond, which was set at more than $1.5 million, has also been revoked.

Gipson has been charged with murder in connection with the death of 53 year old semi truck driver Christine Summers in the early morning hours of August 19.

Summers pulled her truck over near mile marker 118 on I-59/20 in the Birmingham area because she believed she hit something. When she got out to check for damage, she was attacked and died from blunt force trauma.

Her body was discovered by a fellow truck driver, who called 911, but Summers was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gipson was taken into custody within an hour of the murder by the Hueytown Police Department after they received a call about a man in standing in the street.

Hueytown Police knew that Gipson was wanted in connection with a homicide and took him to jail to await questioning by state authorities.

While at the jail, Gipson also attacked two police officers, who suffered minor injuries. He has been issued two charges of aggravated assault against a police officer in addition to the murder charge and the new destruction of government property charge.

The legal team representing Gipson has asked for a mental evaluation. They say that he is “unable to illicit feelings, unable to illicit details of the offense and states he cannot fully remember details of the offense.”

Summers had been a truck driver for about 30 years and had driven team with her husband Lamar for about 20 years before Lamar developed health problems and Christine went solo.
