This week, the Nebraska State Patrol teamed up with Werner Enterprises for a “Trooper in a Truck” detail.
On Tuesday, troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol teamed up with Werner drivers and the Nebraska Trucking Association to conduct a “Trooper in a Truck” enforcement effort intended to help police spot dangerous driving violations near semi trucks. When the trooper in the truck spots a violation, he can contact other units in patrol cars to perform traffic stops and issue citations.
The enforcement effort coincides with the larger “Operation Safe Driver Week” campaign taking place throughout North America.
A growing number of law enforcement agencies are turning to similar enforcement efforts because the high vantage point offered by a truck allows them to spot violations like texting behind the wheel that they might not be able to see from their cruisers.
Similar operations have taken place in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, New Hampshire, and Illinois. Tennessee troopers even have their own custom Peterbilt that they use in distracted driving details. The Florida Highway Patrol also has a custom semi truck that they use for various enforcement activities.
