Pedestrian’s death after being struck by semi now being investigated as an “intentional act.”

The death of a pedestrian who was hit by a passing semi last week in Topeka, KS is now being investigated as a suicide according to Kansas Highway Patrol officials.

The accident occurred around 10 a.m. on Sept. 3. on eastbound I-70, immediately west of the S.W. Valencia Road exit in western Shawnee County.

According to the initial report, the pedestrian was hit by the semi while on the interstate.

Immediately after the incident, a passenger car and a semi pulled over and stopped on the right eastbound shoulder of I-70 near where the pedestrian had been hit. The car was later removed from the scene by a tow truck.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and the victim was taken by American Medical Response ambulance to a Topeka hospital.

The individual was later pronounced dead.

No other injuries were reported.

Trooper Don Hughes, a spokesman for the Kansas Highway Patrol, said Wednesday that the pedestrian was struck in what appears to have been an “intentional act.”

This case remains under investigation.
