Rescuers search for driver after box truck plunges off Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel

Authorities in Virginia are searching for a truck driver after a box truck crashed off of the  Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel on Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred around 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday near mile marker 14 on the northbound side of the bridge.

Officials said, “The truck has gone overboard on the east side of the northbound span between North Channel Bridge and the northernmost island. CBBT Police are still investigating the circumstances of the accident.”

Multiple agencies including the Virginia Beach Fire & Rescue and the U.S. Coast Guard are trying to locate the box truck driver.

Heavy traffic delays are expected on the bridge as crews make emergency repairs and as the search for the box truck driver continues.
