Trucker dies in crash that shut down Knoxville interstate for hours

The Knoxville Police Department says that a trucker was killed after losing control of his vehicle in a Tuesday morning crash.

The crash occurred around 8:40 a.m on eastbound I-40 near Asheville Highway in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Knoxville police say that “based on the evidence at the scene and witness statements, the tractor trailer was traveling on I-40 East when it lost control, struck the median and flipped.”

The truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police also said that the trailer struck an overhead sign, causing it to fall down and strike another semi truck traveling westbound on I-40.

No other injuries were reported.

The crash closed both directions of I-40 until about 1 p.m. for the investigation and cleanup of the crash. All lanes have since reopened.
