VIDEO: Rare sighting of Tesla Semi reveals insane acceleration and sound

The Class 8 Tesla Semi was sighted showing off some of its impressive features in Fremont, California.

The semi’s quick acceleration after performing a left-hand turn was captured in a brief video. The silver semi’s visibly smooth and fast acceleration is just one of the notable specs of the new truck.

The semi is equipped with four Model 3-derived electric motors, allowing the vehicle to accelerate to 60 mph in 5 seconds without a trailer. Fully loaded with a trailer, it would take about 20 seconds to reach the same speed.

The semi’s futuristic design makes it a direct competitor to traditional diesel-powered long-haulers. Tesla is promoting the truck as the “safest, most comfortable truck ever.”

At the unveiling of the semi in 2017, Tesla said the electric truck would be coming in 2019, however, the vehicle was pushed to low-volume production in late 2020.

The timeline was then pushed to 2021, but Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, told employees in an email earlier this year that “it’s time to bring Tesla Semi to volume production” without indicating an exact timeline for doing so.
