City council meeting for Texas truckers affected by newly enforced ‘no trucks’ ordinance cancelled due to power outage

Published:

A city council meeting intended to give truckers affected by a newly enforced ordinance a voice was canceled this week due to power outages.

The meeting was scheduled for Tuesday evening, February 16th in Palmview, Texas.

The 2005 ordinance was largely ignored by officials until very recently, and affects multiple residential streets, causing concern for local truckers who may no longer be allowed to park their rigs on their own property.

“A lot of us here are willing to pay permits to pay on our houses and are not out here joyriding the roads, and we just want our vehicle home safe and sound,” said Alexander Garza, one of the many truck drivers who gathered outside of city hall for the now-cancelled meeting on Tuesday.

“We commend them and every truck driver and we just want to work and find a solution for everyone and they deserve our attention,” said Javier Ramirez, city commissioner to Local 23 News.

The city says it plans to reschedule the meeting for sometime next week.
