Clutch issue prompts recall of more than 6,000 semi trucks

More than 6,000 Freightliner Cascadias and Western Star 4700 semi trucks have been recalled due to an issue that could lead to clutch disengagement.

Daimler Trucks North America issued the recall over the weekend, but says the defect has only been reported internally twice, and has not been seen out on the road.

The affected trucks may experience flange failure that may send loose parts into the clutch pressure plate assembly, which could lead to negative effects on clutch disengagement, including lurching and other unexpected movement.

Trucks with an automated manual transmission with certain clutches between July 8 and Dec. 14, 2020 may be affected.

The clutch can be replaced for free at DTNa service facilities. Dealers and owners will be notified of the new recall on May 22nd. Only 1% of trucks are expected to be affected. The NHTSA recall number is 21V-209.
