Illinois police investigate trucker’s death in truck stop parking lot

Police are investigating after a truck driver was fatally struck by another semi truck in a truck stop parking lot in Effingham, Illinois.

Shortly after 3 p.m. on September 18, the Effingham Police Department responded to the Pilot truck stop located on N. Route 45, according to the Effingham Daily News.

Authorities say that 73 year old Texas-based truck driver Eric Howard was on the right rear side of his truck performing repairs when he was allegedly struck by a second semi truck driven by 57 year old Tennessee-based truck driver David Carr.

Howard was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

The incident is under investigation by the Illinois State Police and Effingham City Police.

In an unrelated incident that occurred in Effingham, Illinois last week, 45 year old truck driver Jason Wilson of Las Vegas was found deceased in the sleeper berth area of his truck at the TravelCenters of America truck stop on West Evergreen Avenue. His wife said that Wilson had been ill and foul play is not suspected.
