Iowa DOT says they won’t work scale houses due to high wind threat

Published:

Transportation officials in Iowa say that they won’t be working the state’s weigh stations on Wednesday due to the threat of damaging winds.

On Wednesday morning, Iowa DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement announced that they would not be operating weigh stations in order to prioritize trucker safety.

Officials said:

With the anticipated high winds today, we want to make sure our commercial drivers are safe. Just a reminder that there is truck parking available at our scale locations. We will not be working the scales today to allow for more parking and also allow our officers to be on the road where they may be needed for emergency situations.

Additionally, Iowa DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement has issued travel restrictions for oversize/overweight permitted vehicles due to wind.
