PennDOT restricts trucks to right lane on several interstates, reduces speed limit for winter storm

On Monday morning, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced several travel restrictions due to winter weather.

On January 18, PennDOT opted to reduce speed limits to 45 m.p.h. on Interstates 79, 86 and 90 in Erie County due to heavy snow in the area.

Commercial vehicles are restricted to right lane travel only on the interstates where the speed limit is reduced until further notice, PennDOT says.

PennDOT has restricted trucks to the right lane during bouts of bad weather since 2019.

PennDOT says that they will continue to plow roads and treat roadways until the storm clears. Drivers are asked to avoid any unnecessary travel.
