Postal worker’s attempted u-turn ends in fatal crash with semi truck

A woman was killed while trying to make a u-turn in front of a semi truck on Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened on September 23rd at around 3:18 p.m. in Clam Lake Township. 

According to MLive News, 55-year-old postal worker, Leah Marie Tibbs, was heading southeast on the M-115 shoulder near South Mackinaw Trail when she attempted to make a u-turn in the roadway. As she attempted the u-turn, Tibbs pulled in front of an oncoming tractor trailer heading southeast and was subsequently struck, completely obliterating the mail truck and sparking a fire in both vehicles. 

Tibbs was rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. The 60-year-old trucker was also transported to a hospital but was later released.
