Surveillance video leads to arrest of driver who fled scene after striking pedestrian

A truck driver has been arrested and released for the death of a pedestrian in New Jersey earlier this week.

The pedestrian, 54-year-old Angelica Moran-Moreira, was killed at about 5:55 a.m. on Route 1 and Bakers Basin Road in Mercer County on Monday, October 11th.

According to The Daily Voice, 54-year-old driver Frank Claybrooks was turning right onto Route 1 from Bakers Basin Road when he fatally struck Moran-Moreira and drove away, leaving her lying in the road. About an hour later, police were notified that there was a woman lying in the road and she was pronounced dead on scene.

With no sign of the culprit, police were only able to track down Claybrooks through witness information and nearby surveillance footage. Claybrookes was then taken into custody and charged with second-degree leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and third-degree endangering an injured victim. He has since been released pending a court appearance.

No further information has been released.
