Truck driver killed while tending to disabled rig

A truck driver is dead after being hit by a car in Vermont on Monday morning. 

The accident happened at around 5:50 a.m. in Hartland, Vermont. 

According to NBC 5 News, 66-year-old Gary Starr had pulled into the breakdown lane of southbound Interstate 91 after his rig became ‘disabled.’ He activated his hazard lights and placed the appropriate traffic triangles, but was stuck by a vehicle as he was walking in the southbound lane. 

Officers say there was a bend in the road just before where Starr was parked, and the motorist could not stop in time. 

The southbound lanes of Interstate 91 were shut down for several hours as authorities investigated the crash.
