Trooper say trucker choked on fruit, crashed rig into ditch

A truck driver in Michigan crashed his semi into a ditch after choking on a piece of fruit while operating the vehicle.

According to the Michigan State Police, the crash happened on westbound I-96 near M-100 near Lansing.

Authorities were called to the scene around 7 a.m on April 30.

The driver reportedly lost control of the truck and ran off the roadway into a ditch after he had choked on fruit that he was eating, police say.

There were no injuries but the semi truck was heavily damaged after jackknifing into on the side of the road.

The right lane of I-96 was closed Friday morning as crews removed the damaged truck.
