Two arrested in connection with body found in gas tanker in June

Published:

Illinois police have arrested two men in connection with the discovery of a body inside of a gas tanker earlier this year.

The Iroquois County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Billy T. Roof III, 33, and Ryan D. Morrow, 37, on charges of unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle and unlawful concealment of death. Roof is also facing a charge of unlawful use of account numbers.

The charges were issued in response to the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body of 29 year old Illinois resident Garrett Meyer.

Meyer’s body was discovered on June 4 at a gas transfer hub near Buckley, Illinois, after two truck drivers noticed problems with unloading fuel from the tanker for a couple of days. The truckers reportedly looked into the tanker, discovered the body inside, and called 911.

An autopsy performed on Meyer by the Iroquois County Coroner’s Office showed “toxic levels of amphetamines and fentanyl” as well as a blood alcohol content of .181.

Both Roof and Morrow are being held in the Iroquois County Jail.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. If you have any information, you’re asked to call the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Department at 815-432-6992.
