9-vehicle-pileup creates backups so long troopers had to “wake up drivers who fell asleep”

A nine vehicle pile up crash involving two semi trucks caused backups that left drivers stranded overnight in Louisiana on Tuesday.

The wreck happened on eastbound Interstate 10, one mile from the LA 3000 exit on March 22nd at around 1:30 a.m. in Iberville Parish.

According to The Sun, the crash shut down traffic on the I-10 East at I-49 and on I-10 East at LA Hwy 3000 exit at Ramah, forcing traffic to a standstill for around seven hours.

When the roadway reopened at around 8:30 a.m., responding troopers had to go from stopped car to stopped car to wake up drivers who had fallen asleep while waiting. Cars were then diverted along a detour from I-49 northbound to US Hwy 190 eastbound while crews worked to clear the wreck, reported ABC 2.

It is unclear what caused the pile-up wreck, but no serious injuries were reported.
