El Centro Sector Border Patrol seized hundreds of pounds of methamphetamine from a semi truck passing through an immigration checkpoint last week.
The drug seizure occurred shortly after 2 a.m. on Friday, September 30, at the Highway 86 checkpoint near Salton City, California.
Officers referred a white 2015 Freightliner for a secondary inspection.
A canine unit alerted to the rear of the truck’s trailer. When officers inspected the trailer, they found three black duffel bags concealed between cardboard bundles.
Inside the duffel bags, Border Patrol agents found 110 separate vacuum sealed packages that tested positive as methamphetamine.
Border Patrol seized a total of 233.9 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $514,580.
The driver of the truck, a 50 year old male, was arrested.
The drugs, driver, truck, and trailer, were all handed over to Homeland Security Investigations.
