Homicide investigation underway after 2-month-old found unresponsive in semi truck

An investigation has been launched after a baby was found unresponsive in a tractor trailer at a truck stop in Illinois last week. 

The boy was taken to the hospital on Wednesday, August 31st after his parents realized he was unresponsive while parked at a truck stop along Interstate 57 in Monee. 

CBS 58 reports that the boy and his parents were staying overnight in their rig at the Petro Truck Stop and were on their way to Wisconsin. The parents told officers they do not know why the boy stopped breathing. 

The child died two days after being taken to the hospital on Friday morning, September 2nd. The Cook County medical examiner says that the boy, Sevyn Simmons, died from a traumatic head injury.

The parents are not currently in custody but an investigation has been launched.
