Police are investigating a potential hit-and-run after a man was struck by a semi truck and left on the side of the highway for hours.
The accident happened on Thursday, January 13th on westbound Interstate 10 close to the I-10 westbound bridge near the Louisiana-Mississippi state line.
At around 2 p.m. on Thursday, a Department of Transportation crew found the man lying injured on the shoulder of I-10 during a routine job. Upon investigation, Louisiana State police determined that the man had been struck by a tractor trailer, potentially at some time during the night, and had suffered on the side of the road since then.
Parts of I-10 were temporarily shut down to allow for a helicopter to land on the highway and transport the injured man to a hospital. The severity of the unnamed man’s injuries are not known.
Troopers say that the crash is being investigated as a hit-and-run, but that it is possible the truck driver was not even aware they had struck someone. They are working to identify the semi truck involved, reported 4 WWL News.
