‘Non FMCSA compliant’ software issue prompts recall of 76k+ brand new Kenworth, Peterbilts

Published:

PACCAR has issued a recall affecting more than 76,000 vehicles for a display issue that puts the trucks out of FMCSA compliance.

The recall was issued for a digital display error that prevents the display of critical information. The recall affects 2022-2023 Kenworth and Peterbilt models. The defect can cause the trucks to be out of compliance with the FMCSA’s “control and display” and “transmission shift lever sequence, starter interlock, and transmission braking effect” regulations, according to the letter.

Owner letters are expected to be mailed on December 16th, and dealers are updating the software for free. Only 1% of the recalled vehicles, an estimated 1% of the total recall, are believed to have the defect.

This is the second large recall for PACCAR this year.
