Texas bridge shut down due to multiple holes after semi loses wind turbine component

Texas transportation officials are warning drivers that it could take several weeks to months to repair major structural damage to a bridge that was caused by a truck mishap.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Friday, March 25, in downtown Wichita Falls, Texas.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), an “18-wheeler hauling a wind turbine component lost its cargo on Northbound I-44 on top of the 6th Street overpass.” Authorities did not provide information on why the component fell off the truck’s trailer.

According to TxDOT, the incident caused “massive structural damage to the bridge deck,” including “sizeable holes.”

“TxDOT is working on an emergency contract to repair the damage and restore traffic to its original configuration. Repairs could take several weeks to months to finish,” TxDOT officials said.
