Authorities in Colorado are investigating a fatal crash involving a truck hauling a piece of heavy equipment that occurred on Monday evening.
The crash was reported shortly after 6 p.m. on August 8 on northbound I-25 near mile marker 246 near Mead, Colorado.
Authorities say that a truck hauling a trackhoe struck an overpass as it passed underneath, causing damage to the overpass and leaving the trackhoe lying in the lanes of northbound I-25.
A 32 year old motorist and a child passenger were transported to the hospital for injuries suffered in the crash. The motorist was later pronounced dead.
I-25 was closed overnight as the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) inspected the overpass. The interstate reopened Tuesday morning.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation and it isn’t clear whether charges will be filed.
