Louisiana transportation officials have closed both directions of I-10 in New Orleans for multiple crashes amid “super fog” conditions.
On Tuesday morning, fog combined with smoke from a marsh fire contributed to low visibility conditions, resulting in several crashes on I-10 at Michoud Boulevard in New Orleans.

WDSU reports that one person involved in a crash was transported to a hospital, where they passed away from their injuries.
Several other people are reported injured.

Eastbound and westbound I-10 is closed at Michoud Boulevard. Ten mile traffic backups have been reported. Drivers are asked to seek alternate routes.
I-10 West remains closed to traffic at Michoud Boulevard due to an accident. Traffic is being diverted at Irish Bayou. Congestion from this incident has reached ten miles. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.

Super fog was also blamed for an October 23 pileup crash that occurred on I-55 in Manchac, Louisiana. That crash involved 168 vehicles and left seven people dead and dozens more injured.
