DWI driver nearly sends rig off Texas overpass

Published:

A truck driver has been released on bond after a DWI incident that nearly sent his rig off of an overpass in Texas on Saturday night.

The incident occurred on July 15th in Wichita Falls, Texas at around 8:47 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the Lloyd Ruby Overpass across 15th Street.

According to Texhomas News, police arrived to find a semi truck with its cab partially hanging off of the overpass, and were able to pull the truck driver out of the cab.

Officers described the driver, David Gutierrez, as dazed, slurring his words, and struggling to maintain his balance with bloodshot eyes. They also detected the smell of alcohol. Gutierrez told officers he had consumed “one drink” in the last hour.

Police found empty Michelob bottles in the truck cab, but Gutierrez refused a Field Sobriety test. He was then detained and consented to a blood draw. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and was released on $750 bond.
