Five vehicles, building struck by runaway truck tires

Three people were hurt after runaway truck tires bounced across an interstate in Kansas on Friday morning.

The incident happened at around 6:25 a.m. on Friday, January 20th on northbound Interstate 35 and 7th Street in Kansas City, Kansas.

According to 13 WIBW, police were called to the scene for reports of a six vehicle incident. When officers arrived, they found a 2015 Kenworth semi truck driven by Ira Chandler had been traveling north on I-35 when it lost two tires.

The wayward tires then hit five other vehicles on the interstate before eventually crashing into a building. Three drivers in three of the truck vehicles – 46-year-old Karla Lugo Orrantina, 53-year-old Felipe Armenta-Cardena, and 31-year-old Latrinda Pope – were sent to nearby hospitals with minor injuries.

No further information has been released. It is not clear if Chandler will be cited for the incident.
