Flatbed driver killed in crash near runaway ramp in Idaho

Police are investigating a fatal single vehicle crash that occurred near a runaway ramp in Idaho on Tuesday afternoon.

Idaho State Police (ISP) say that the crash occurred at 3:32 p.m. on October 24 on at U.S. 95 southbound near mile marker 312 at Escape Ramp 5 close to Lewiston, Idaho.

State police say that a 55 year old Idaho-based truck driver was operating a 2014 Volvo semi tractor hauling a loaded flatbed trailer of lumber on U.S. 95 near the bottom of the Lewiston Hill.

“The semi was traveling at high rate of speed, lost control, overturned and came to rest in Escape Ramp 5. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected,” ISP said in a news release.

Police say that the truck driver died at the scene.

The highway was closed for approximately 12 hours for investigation and clean up of the spilled lumber.

The incident remains under investigation.
