A chain-reaction crash involving more than a dozen vehicles occurred on Thursday night on the Massachusetts Turnpike during winter weather conditions.
According to Massachusetts State Police (MSP), the pileup occurred at 11:20 p.m. on February 23 in the eastbound lanes of the Turnpike in Brimfield.
Troopers say that approximately 15 vehicles, including “multiple tractor trailers and personal vehicles” were involved in a chain-reaction crash.
“Multiple” people were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries.
Troopers say that “icing on road [is] believed to be cause” of the pileup.
MSP said that all eastbound lanes of the Massachusetts Turnpike were closed at the crash scene until just before 5 a.m. on Friday.
