Philadelphia’s I-95 collapses following tanker truck fire

Both directions of a portion of I-95 in Philadelphia are closed indefinitely after a major fire caused an overpass to collapse.

The Philadelphia Fire Department (PFD) responded to the scene around 6:30 a.m. on June 11.

PFD said that a large vehicle fire occurred underneath I-95 at the Cottman Avenue Exit in the northeastern part of the city.

The vehicle that caught fire was a tanker truck, according to multiple outlets.

No injuries have been reported as of 2:30 p.m.

“There is an ongoing emergency response from dozens of city, state, and federal agencies as a portion of I-95 is closed in both directions,” PFD said.

Officials expect a long-term closure of I-95.
