A truck driver who played the lottery every day of his trucking career finally hit the jackpot after retiring from the industry.
“Pap Paw” went to the Silo Hill Sunoco in Emmitsburg, Maryland on Sunday, September 10th and purchased a ticket for the drawing on Monday, September 11th. He ended up matching five of the winning numbers, earning him $1,000 a week for life.
Pap Paw says that, after he won, he called one of his sons to confirm he had really hit the jackpot. “I had already checked it five times,” he said.
“The winner went into one establishment and waited until all of the other customers left before seeking the clerk’s help,” Lottery officials said.
“When she scanned the ticket, ‘her eyes got really big,’” “Pap Paw” recalled to Daily Voice.
The 79-year-old retired trucker says he has played games like “Multi-Match,” “Mega Millions,” and “Powerball,” almost every day throughout his life. “I’ve only missed playing maybe two or three days in all those years,” he said. “I didn’t give up.”
The widower and grandfather to 12 says he will use the money to upgrade his flip phone, take a fishing trip, and save for his family.
