Trucker fined $3,544 for ignoring warnings, getting stuck in Smugglers Notch

A truck driver from Florida is facing thousands of dollars worth fines after his truck became wedged on the notorious Smugglers Notch segment of Vermont Route 108 in Cambridge, Vermont, over the weekend.

Late Sunday night, Vermont State Police (VSP) responded to Smugglers Notch in Cambridge for a reported stuck tractor trailer.

Troopers made contact with the truck driver, Yusnier Anuez, 36, of Florida City, Florida.

“Anuez advised he ignored several signs that are posted stating tractor trailers are prohibited, as he was following his GPS. Multiple bystanders attempted to stop Anuez from entering the Notch, however he continued,” VSP said in an incident report.

The roadway was closed for several hours until the stuck truck was removed with help from a tow truck.

VSP says that Anuez was issued tickets with a fine amount totaling $3,544.00.

Earlier this year, Vermont lawmakers introduced a bill that would fine GPS providers when tractors trailers become stuck in the Notch.
