Video shows big rig ‘scraping’ through 12’6″ Boston tunnel

A motorist captured video of a big rig ‘scraping’ through a low Boston tunnel this week.

The video was captured on October 25 in the Sumner Tunnel between Boston and East Boston.

“The Sumner Tunnel in Boston, Massachusetts, just reopened after a full summer of being closed for repairs. This was a trucker from Ontario who decided to take a chance and head into the tunnel. Ten minutes of scraping the ceiling, hearing crunching, and seeing sparks, he got to the other side; only to be faced with two even lower tunnels. I scooted around him when I could so not sure what the outcome was. Being stuck in a tunnel underwater is literally my worst nightmare!” explained the person who filmed the video.

According to Mass.gov, the maximum vehicle height for the Sumner Tunnel is 12’6″.
