Week-long nationwide driver blitz starts this weekend

There are only a few days left before the kickoff of the  Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Operation Safe Driver Week campaign.

This year’s Operation Safe Driver Week will be held from Sunday, July 9 through Saturday, July 15, in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.

Officers will be looking for dangerous driving behaviors including speeding, improper lane changes, driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, using a handheld device, and failure to wear a seat belt, etc.

The area of emphasis for Operation Safe Driver Week 2023 will be speeding. Speeding has been the area of emphasis for the past several Operation Safe Driver Week campaigns.

During the weeklong enforcement effort, police will be on the lookout for unsafe driving behaviors committed by both motorists and commercial vehicle drivers. Those caught violating the law will be pulled over and issued a warning or a citation.

During Operation Safe Driver Week 2022, law enforcement in Canada and the U.S. pulled over more than 35,000 commercial motor vehicles and passenger vehicles and issued 26,164 warnings and citations to commercial motor vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers.
