Police uncovered more than $18M worth of meth hidden inside of a shipment of squash at the California border on Monday.
The discovery of the $18M worth of meth occurred on May 20th at the Otay Mesa Commercial Facility near San Diego, California just before 7 a.m.
According to Border Report, border agents found anomalies inside of the tractor trailer’s shipment during the x-ray portion of the enhanced inspection. A drug dog was brought in and alerted agents to the possible presence of contraband.
Agents soon discovered 1,419 packages of methamphetamine hidden within the shipment of squash. The packages weighed in at 11,469 pounds and have an estimated street value of $18,350,400
The 44-year-old unnamed truck driver was taken into custody for further investigation. No further information has been released.
