Almost $500k in cocaine found hidden in load of cotton candy

Agents seized almost $500,000 in cocaine hidden amongst a load of cotton candy in Texas earlier this month. 

The contraband was found on May 9th inside of a tractor trailer crossing the World Trade Bridge near Laredo, Texas. 

According to the Laredo Morning Times, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents used a K9 and X-ray equipment to uncover the 15 packages made up of 37 pounds of cocaine hidden inside of the load of cotton candy. 

“Our frontline officers continue to maintain resolute vigilance and that dedication to the mission coupled with an effective use of technology resulted in the interception of a significant amount of cocaine,” said Port Director Albert Flores of the Laredo Port of Entry.

“Seizures like these reinforce the importance and necessity of our ongoing border security mission.”

The found cocaine had an estimated value of $496,879. No further information has been released.
