Driver not charged for mangling shipping container under bridge

Published:

A truck driver has not been charged for a wreck with a bridge that mangled a shipping container and impacted traffic on Tuesday evening.

The accident happened on May 28th at about 6:50 p.m. on northbound NC 52 at Akron Drive in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The official decision to not charge the truck driver was released on Thursday, May 30th.

According to Fox 8, the tractor trailer was hauling a shipping container when it tried to pass beneath the Akron Drive bridge. The container clipped the bridge, which yanked it off of the trailer, leaving a mangled mess on the roadway.

Police say that no one was seriously hurt in the incident, and the bridge did not sustain any damage.

Two of the three northbound NC 52 lanes were shut down as crews worked to investigate the incident and remove the container.

The unnamed truck driver has not been charged in the incident.
