Hitchhiker sentenced for murder of trucker in California

This week, a man was sentenced to prison for the murder of a truck driver in California in 2022.

On Thursday, May 2, Isaiah Harley was sentenced to sixteen years to life in prison in a Fresno County Court, ABC 30 reports.

Harley was charged with murder in the death of 51 year old truck driver Joey Madeira in June 2022.

At 7:30 a.m. on June 25, 2022, police responded to the EZ Trip Travel Center along I-5 in Avenal, California, for a reported injured man. When they arrived at travel center, they found Madeira dead in the parking lot from stab wounds.

Harley, who was 21 at the time, remained at the scene and was arrested.

Police later determined that Madeira had picked up Harley in his truck as he was hitchhiking along I-5.

The motive for Harley’s stabbing attack remains unclear.
