I-35 turnaround in SATX to be shut down for the next month

Published:

An important turnaround on Interstate 35 in San Antonio will be shut down for the next month, the Texas Department of Transportation has warned.

Starting Monday, October 21st, the turnaround lane at I-35 and Rittiman Road that reroutes the southbound I-35 access road north will be shut down through mid-November as part of the I-35 Northeast Expansion Project (NEX).

According to MySanAntonio News, the closure falls near a busy trucking terminal, and along the stretch of highway that connects Austin and San Antonio, so traffic congestion is expected throughout the closure.

The closure is just one phase of the NEX project, which will add elevated lanes along the highway and is scheduled to be completed by 2027 with a cost of $1.5 billion.
