Migrants found hiding under sleeper mattress, locked in cabinet of semi truck

Six migrants were found hiding under a sleeper mattress and inside of a locked cabinet inside of a semi truck cab over the weekend.

The migrants were found at around 5 p.m. on February 4th at the Interstate 35 checkpoint in Texas

According to the Laredo Morning Times, truck driver Iram Garcia Ledezma arrived at the checkpoint and told officers that he was traveling alone on his way to San Antonio.

Upon further inspection, agents opened the compartment door underneath the mattress in the sleeper berth and found five undocumented migrants inside. A sixth migrant was then found inside of a locked cabinet.

“From inside the tractor, agents opened the compartment located under the sleeper mattress and discovered five undocumented non-citizens inside,” the affidavit stated.

Ledezma invoked his right to an attorney and was charged with transport, attempt to transport and conspire to transport the migrants.

Ledezma and the migrants were all detained.
