An officer-involved fatal shooting occurred on an Alabama interstate on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident began at 2:35 p.m. on June 11 in Opelika, Alabama when police responded to a two vehicle crash involving a passenger vehicle and a semi truck.
When Opelika Police Department officers arrived at the crash scene along I-85, “they were confronted by a subject armed with a knife.”
An “officer-involved shooting” occurred, and police say that the subject died at the scene.
The case has been handed over to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency/ State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) in accordance with department protocol, according to the Opelika Police Department.
The incident resulted in heavy traffic delays in the area. All lanes of I-85 were reopened by 7:10 p.m.
