Tractor trailers parked along two streets in New Jersey during construction efforts prompted a proposed ban on truck parking in the area this week.
The proposed parking ban ordinance on Monday, October 28th in East Brunswick, New Jersey along West Ferris Street and Sixth Street, reported Patch News.
Last week, crews went to work paving West Ferris Street, between Route 18 Southbound, and Sixth Street from Lowes’s Home Improvement Parking Lot to the beginning of the property lines of 33 Sixth Street and 34 Sixth Street.
City officials say that the paving work was impeded by multiple tractor trailers parked along the street, despite advanced warning issued by the township. Crews and the city were forced to tow the semi trucks in order to complete the work.
“In this case, we got their attention because we are paving and we towed them. Some of them got quite sizeable towing bills and storage fees,” Business administrator Joseph Criscuolo said.
City officials say the construction interference, the blocking of emergency services, and the damage to the street done by leaking hydraulic fluids has prompted a semi truck parking ban for the area.
