Pastor forgives trucker for smashing church with revoked license

Published:

Pastor forgives trucker after he smashes through his church without a license or insurance to cover the damages.

The accident happened over the weekend in Gaston County, North Carolina, when a semi truck ran off of Highway 321 and smashed into the side of Iglesia Pentecostal.

Pastor Bienvenido Alegria told WSOC-TV that the wreck left pews from his church scattered everywhere and affected him emotionally.

“I was impacted in my soul,” he said. “I feel real, real sad.”

Alegria says he was inside of his home about 300 yards from the church when he heard the crash, causing him to step outside and find the damage. He says he saw the truck driver was stunned, and went to help him out of his truck.

When it was discovered that the truck driver was operating on a revoked license and had no insurance, Alegria decided to look at the driver as if he were family instead of a criminal.

“I say, [what if he was] maybe my son or my nephew or somebody else…. I love you.”

For now, the church has been deemed unsafe and Alegria says he isn’t sure what the next move is, but he has faith that the building will eventually be rebuilt.
