The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has provided details to get drivers ready for the upcoming Operation Safe Driver Week blitz.
This year, Operation Safe Driver Week will take place July 7 — 13 in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
Operation Safe Driver Week is an enforcement effort targeting both commercial vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers.
The focus area for Operation Safe Driver Week 2024 will be reckless, careless, or dangerous driving, defined as “as operating a vehicle without due care and attention or reasonable consideration for other motorists or people on the road.”
Officers will be on the lookout for dangerous driving behaviors such as speeding, distracted driving, following too closely, and drunk or drugged driving. Violators will be pulled over by law enforcement and can be cited, the CVSA says.
During last year’s Operation Safe Driver Week, 11,448 commercial vehicle traffic stops were conducted. A total of 4,592 warnings and 2,634 tickets/citations were given to commercial motor vehicle drivers.
The focus area for Operation Safe Driver Week 2023 was speeding.
