Troopers in Rhode Island and other states are patrolling to enforce Tuesday’s winter weather big rig travel bans.
Early Tuesday morning, six northeastern states — Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey — issued travel restrictions for tractor trailers due to a winter storm with heavy snowfall.
However, it appears that not all truck drivers are heeding these travel restrictions.
Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee said that state police are citing truckers for violation the travel ban.
“They are citing some of the tractor-trailers. We are in coordination with Connecticut and Massachusetts, and they are enforcing as well. You may be seeing some out there, but they’re not out there with permission, and we’re asking them to stay off the roads because of safety issues,” McKee told WJAR.
Rhode Island State Police said that troopers are out patrolling and ticketing truckers who have skidded off the roads.
