Truck driver in fatal u-turn accident identified after nearly two month search by OHP

A truck driver who fled a fatal accident with a motorist in Ohio has been identified nearly two months after the crash.

The October 24th accident happened on Interstate 77 near Strasburg, Ohio, leading to a months-long search by the Ohio Highway Patrol. The truck driver who fled the scene has been identified as a 59-year-old man from Cleveland, Ohio. His name has not been released, reported 19 News.

78-year-old motorist, Dennis Alsept, did not die in the crash, but passed away in the hospital a few days later.

“He was a great man, he loved his family,” Alsept’s son-in-law, Andy Donaldson, said. “His family was his everything.”

“Accidents happen, however, he [the truck driver] made a tragic mistake that day,” Donaldson said.

OHP has not yet set forth any charges against the truck driver.
