Video takes a deep dive into runaway gravel hauler hitting dozens of vehicles before exploding at car dealership

The A&E reality TV series “Road Wars” recently featured a dramatic incident involving an out-of-control gravel hauler that ended in an explosion at a car dealership in Utah last year.

Road Wars is a show that takes a “deep dive into American roadways,” looking at strange driver behavior, extreme weather, and wild traffic accidents like the one that made headlines in Tooele, Utah, last fall.

Around 1:30 p.m. on November 3, 2023, a truck pulling two loaded gravel trailers experienced brake failure while traveling in Tooele. The runaway gravel truck went through several city intersections, striking five vehicles and then crashing into dozens of cars at the Tooele Motor Company in the area of 1000 North and Main Street, sparking a large structure fire.

Eleven people were injured, including one person who was airlifted to a hospital.

Truck driver Moab James Stapley, was charged over the summer with reckless driving, brake violations, running red lights, and driving on the wrong side of the road. A post-crash investigation revealed that “80% of [its] trailer braking system [was] not functioning correctly.”

The Road Wars clip below uses dash cam, police body cam, and security cam video to trace the path of the out-of-control truck as it barrels through Tooele sidewalks and intersections, and then catches fire and explodes at the auto dealership. Take a look below.
