21-year-old truck driver arrested for possible DUI after fatal crash involving multiple semi trucks

A 21-year-old truck driver was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after a pile up crash that killed three people near Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened just after 1 p.m. in Ontario, California on the 10 Freeway.

According to KTLA, the 21-year-old truck driver did not brake prior to crashing into a line of stopped traffic, creating a chain reaction crash involving approximately four other tractor trailers and four other vehicles.

“… the red truck was traveling at a high rate of speed when everyone else was stopped,” said witness Jason Calmelat. “He didn’t try to slow down. He just went full force into the back of another truck, crushing two other cars.”

Calmelat says the collision also caused an explosion. Three people died and at least two other people were hospitalized with serious injuries.

Police arrested an unnamed truck driver described only as a 21-year-old man. He was arrested on suspicions of driving under the influence of drugs.
