Driver stepped out to view victim, discuss with witnessing trucker, before driving away from crash with pedestrian

A truck driver is facing charges after witnesses say he stepped out of his rig to check out a pedestrian he hit before driving away.

The crash happened on March 21st on Interstate 80 eastbound at mile marker 257.1 in Butler Township, Pennsylvania.

According to PA Homepage, 53-year-old Israel Cruz was working on his disabled vehicle on the right shoulder of the interstate when he was struck by a tractor trailer. The tractor trailer driver and a second trucker who witnessed the crash pulled over, and stepped out of their rigs to discuss the incident.

The driver who hit Cruz, 50-year-old Aziz Bello, was seen looking at Cruz before getting back into his semi truck and fleeing the scene. Police soon arrived at the scene and Cruz was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officers eventually identified Bello, and he was arrested by Pennsylvania State Police in Bethlehem. He admitted to officers that he had been driving the tractor trailer involved in the incident and pulled over to check damages before driving away.

Bello has been charged with accidents involving death or personal injury.
