A truck driver who ran over an officer in a “paranoid” episode last year is facing new charges after assaulting an officer with an “unknown liquid” while in jail.
43-year-old Michael Aaron Jayne ran over and killed Santaquin, Utah police Sgt. Bill Hooser on Interstate 15 in May 2024 during what has been described as a “paranoid” episode. Now, Jayne is accused of “propell(ing) an unknown liquid through a closed door at a uniformed Utah County Sheriff Deputy,” reported KSLTV.
A video from inside of Jayne’s jail cell shows that “Jayne can be seen watching the victim. Jayne then forcefully pushes something in the corner of the door, then the victim stops and stands back and radios for an additional deputy and steps away. Jayne can be seen pacing in his cell while watching the victim. On camera, you can see me enter the unit, and the victim wipes his face,” reported KJZZ 14.
“I witnessed inmate Michael Aaron Jayne, who is currently in custody, use his hands to forcefully hit something on the inside of his cell door through the crack, causing liquid to spray out onto the victim. When this happened, the cell door was shut; it took planning and effort to shoot the substance through the crack in his door at the right time,” the probable cause documents reads.
Jayne is charged with nine felonies, including aggravated murder, for the I-15 incident. He has pending charges of aggravated assault and assault on deputies for an incident in an interrogation room in July 2025 where he injured multiple officers. He will likely be charged with a Class A misdemeanor for the recent November 10th incident.
